The Atlanta Yacht Club's Junior Sailing Program is a fantastic way to learn to sail or improve sailing skills for sailors from 6 to 18 years old. Our instructors make the classes fun and informative.




2008 Schedule

Intermediate / Advanced - Spring
April 13 - June 1, 2008 (6 sessions - off Memorial Day)
Sundays 9AM - noon

Basic Sailing (Ages 9-13)
June 8 - July 13, 2008
Sunday 9am - noon
Registration Open: April 15 - June 1 (or until space is full)


Early Birds (Ages 6-8)
June 21 - August 9, 2008 (7 sessions - except July 4th weekend)
Saturdays 10am - noon
Registration Open: April 15 - June 1 (or until space is full)


Intermediate / Advanced - Fall
September 7 - October 12, 2008 (6 sessions)
Sundays 9am - noon
Registration Open: Feb. 1
Discount for attending both Spring & Fall sessions.




Class Descriptions

Early Birds

Ages 6-8 in Optis - must be 6 by June 1st, 2008

Description: This class is an introduction to sailing with a heavy emphasis on fun activities on and off the water. Parental participation is required.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim; swim test from Opti dock to Sunfish dock at first session.

Parental Involvement: Parents must be willing to assist in supervision of kids on and off the water. There will be a snack / drink rotation.

Fee: $80 member / $130 non-member


Basic Sailing

Ages 9-13 in Optis

Description: This class is focused on boat handling and is best suited for graduates of Early Birds and those with minimal racing experience. Classes are designed to improve sailing skills, boat handling and confidence in a low key, non-racing environment.

Prerequisites: Must be able to swim; swim test from Opti dock to Sunfish dock at first session.

Fee: $65 member / $115 non-member


Intermediate / Advanced

Ages 9-13 in Optis (size permitting)

Ages 14-18 in Lasers (must provide own boat) and/or 420's

Description: This class is for kids that know how to race and want to improve their skills in the areas of: boat handling, tactics, rules, and racing.

Prerequisites: swim test at first session, satisfactory completion of Early Bird Program or equivalent. Must be able to navigate and complete a race course.

Fee: $90 member / $130 non-member (1 session)
$160 member (2 sessions = Spring + Fall)

Juniors must bring their own life jackets, as well as be able to swim. They will also need tennis or boat shoes, a bathing suit, t-shirt, sunscreen, towel, hat, water bottle and sunglasses.


Junior Week

Eligibility: Applicants must be between the ages of 12 by end of 2008 and not yet 19 before January 1, 2009. Registration will be open to children of club members, as well as to campers who have attended in the past. Exceptions will be considered for grandchildren of club members who have made significant contributions of their time and efforts in previous Junior Week Camps.

Registration will be earlier this year, beginning on January 15th and closing out March 30th. The registration process will be online as it was last year.

Fee: $250




Important Registration Information

Non-members are encouraged and welcome to attend based on availability. Space is limited, so registering early is recommended.

Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is through Active.com. Payment is by credit card online only.
