Atlanta Yacht Club : Junior Fleet

2010 Junior Week

June 6-11, 2010

Junior Week info | Registration | What to Bring | Forms

Junior Week is a one-week resident sailing camp for children of club members ages twelve through eighteen. The camp focuses on sailing classes during the day but also includes fun evening activities.

Junior Week is a phenomenal bargain because the camp is run completely by volunteers. To support this effort, parents of campers are required to volunteer at least one full day per camper (or the equivalent).

AYC Junior Sailing Registration

Eligibility : Applicants must be between the ages of 12 by end of 2010 and not yet 19 before January 1, 2011. Registration is open to children of club members.

Grandchildren of club members and other extended family members will be considered on a space available basis.

Registration Deadline : Online registration information must be recieved before midnight March 31, 2010.

Availability : Space is limited to 50 junior sailors.

Fleets : Twelve- to fourteen-year olds are encouraged to sail Optis. We are expecting about 20 Opti sailors to attend Junior Week '09. The club owns fourteen Optis so please bring your own Opti if you have one.

Beginning Laser sailors will be required to use 4.7 rigs. (Last year, this group was called Intermediate I.) The club can furnish up to ten 4.7 rigs. All other Beginning Laser sailors will be required to furnish their own 4.7 rigs.

All Beginning Laser, Intermediate Laser and Advanced Fleet sailors are expected to bring their own Laser. The Advanced Fleet will sail Lasers and 420s during the week.

At Junior Week '09, a limited number of campers will have the option of participating in a non-competing fleet. Non-competing campers will sail larger privately owned sailboats and participate in other on-the-water activities, but this fleet will not emphasize competition sailing as in the other fleets.

Fees : Junior Week participation fees are explained below. Sorry, there are no discounts for multiple campers from the same family. Please make checks payable to Atlanta Yacht Club.

Junior Week participation and use of club-owned Opti : $275

Junior Week participation for campers who furnish their own Opti or Laser : $250

Junior Week participation in non-competing fleet : $295

Cancellations, Refunds, and Late Payments : Cancellations received before midnight May 15, 2010 may be refunded minus a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations after May 15, 2010. Payments postmarked after May 1 will be subject to an additional fee of $25 per child and may cause a camper's reservation to be cancelled and filled by another camper on any waiting list.

Volunteer Requirements of Parents : The parent or sponsor of each camper must volunteer a minimum of one full day for each family member participating in Junior Week. The volunteer requirement can be satisfied with one full day or two half days. (Volunteering for additional time, above the minimum requirement, is greatly appreciated.)

If you, as a parent of an eligible camper, are unable to volunteer your time, please discuss your situation with the Junior Week Directors. It is possible, but not guaranteed, that accommodations can be made without the volunteer commitment for an additional assessment of $150 per camper above the Junior Week fee
