2012 Junior Week

June 3-8, 2012

Junior Week is a one-week resident sailing camp for children of club members ages twelve through eighteen. The camp focuses on sailing classes during the day but also includes fun evening activities.

Junior Week is a great value because the camp is run by volunteers. To support this effort, parents of campers are required to volunteer at least one full day per camper (or the equivalent).

AYC Junior Sailing Registration

Eligibility:

Applicants must be at least 11 years old and not yet 19 before January 1, 2012. Registration is open to children of club members.

Grandchildren of club members and other extended family members will be considered on a space available basis.

Online Registration:  Click Here.
Registration Deadline:

Online registration information must be received before midnight March 31, 2012.  No registration will be accepted without payment.

Availability:

Space is limited to 50 junior sailors.

Fleets:

Twelve- to fourteen-year olds are encouraged to sail Optis. We are expecting about 20 Opti sailors to attend Junior Week. The club owns fourteen Optis so please bring your own Opti if you have one.

Beginning Laser sailors will be required to use 4.7 rigs. (Last year, this group was called Intermediate I.) The club can furnish up to ten 4.7 rigs. All other Beginning Laser sailors will be required to furnish their own 4.7 rigs.

All Beginning Laser, Intermediate Laser and Advanced Fleet sailors are expected to bring their own Laser.

We also offer a 420 fleet for team sailing and racing in the club 420s, including skipper, crew and spinnaker sailing.

Fees:

Junior Week 2012 participation fees are $295 per camper.  Use of club optis and 420s will be assigned based on the date forms and payments are received.  Sorry, there are no discounts for multiple campers from the same family. Please make checks payable to Atlanta Yacht Club.  Mail checks and signed forms to Chris & Sue Payne, 1719 Inverness Ave NE, Atlanta GA 30306.

Cancellations, Refunds, and Late Payments:

Cancellations received before midnight May 1, 2012 may be refunded minus a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations after May 1, 2012. Payments postmarked after May 1 will be subject to an additional fee of $25 per child and may cause a camper's reservation to be canceled and filled by another camper on any waiting list.

Volunteer Requirements of Parents:

The parent or sponsor of each camper must volunteer a minimum of one full day for each family member participating in Junior Week. The volunteer requirement can be satisfied with one full day or two half days. (Volunteering for additional time, above the minimum requirement, is greatly appreciated.)

If you, as a parent of an eligible camper, are unable to volunteer your time, there will be a $250 fee required to fill your position.
